Maserati 200Si

My brief was to make a 1:12 Maserati 200S, a replica of the car as it raced now. The car built in the mid '50s was the only 200S produced in yellow with a green stripe and after spending its recent years in the more customary red, in 2009 was re liveried in its original colors by its current owner.

There being no kits of this car in the required scale available it needed to be scratch built but using some parts from a MG model Plus kit, wheels and the heavily modified body. It started life as a Ferrari TR. The 4 cylinder engine was built from scratch. The Maserati scripts on the cam covers were drawn up and produced in photo etched nickle silver. Many parts were produced using this method including the windscreen surround, instruments, steering wheel etc. The chassis was soldered together from various widths of brass tubing and the seats were covered in green leather.

The model is constructed using a variety of metals and resins and has taken somewhere in the region of 900 hours to complete
