MCLAREN M8F VINTAGE CAN-AM RACE

Kit / Model

The Fast and the Furious 3: Ford Mustang '67

Manufacturer

AMT/Ertl

Item Code

38509

Scale

1/25

Description

THIS MCLAREN M8F DEPICTS THE CAR RUN BY FORMER IMSA DRIVER RICK KNOOP IN VINTAGE CAN-AM EVENTS AROUND THE U.S. IT WAS BASED ON THE 1/20 SCALE VINTAGE MPC M8D KIT. IT FEATURES A VACU-FORMED BODY, ROLL BAR, SUSPENSION ARMS, AND WING BRACES MADE FROM ALUMINUM WELDING ROD, AND DRIVER FIGURE MADE FROM SCULPY PUTTY.
THE KIT TUB WAS USED, BUT THE WHEELBASE WAS LENGTHENED. THREE STYRENE SHEETS WERE LAMINATED AND GLUED TO THE SIDES OF THE BODYWORK TO FORM THE TAIL FINS AND REAR COOLING INTAKES. THE KIT WING WAS WIDENED AND USED AS WELL AS THE KIT VELOCITY STACKS. TAIL LIGHTS WERE MOUNTED ON AN ALUMUNUM TRIANGULAR FRAME AND ATTACHED TO THE TRANSMISSION. ALUMINUM BODY PANELS WERE SIMULATED USING ALUMINUM FOIL. AN OVER ALL PACIFIC BLUE / DEEPER BLUE WING PAINT SCHEME WAS AIRBRUSHED, COVERED WITH A FINAL COAT OF FUTURE ACRYLIC FLOOR WAX. COMPUTER- GENERATED DECALS WERE USED FOR ALL MARKINGS, BUT THE WHITE ROUNDELS WERE CUT FROM WHITE DECAL SHEET, AND THE CHEVY LOGO ON THE WING WAS FORMED FROM 10 TRAPEZOID-SHAPED MEDIUM BLUE DECAL PIECES. OVERALL, THE PROJECT TOOK THREE MONTHS TO COMPLETE.
