Description

TS is based on the original 550 Maranello road car's monocoque chassis, but with almost every component modified: aluminium roof and rear quarters, all other bodywork panels in carbon fibre composite. The road car's original 1690 kg have been trimmed down to 1100 kg (as per Le Mans regulations) thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre and lightweight components. In addition, Prodrive redesigned the V12 engine to increase power output from 485 bhp to more than 600 bhp; with the proper gearing, the 550 GTS could easily exceed 330 kmh (205 mph).
The standard six-speed H-gate gearbox has been replaced by a six-speed sequential gearbox from Xtrac, longitudinally mounted at the rear axle. Extra wide 18 inch Prodrive-designed OZ forged magnesium wheels, have been housed within the increased front and rear tracks.
